Carthamus

Carthamus is a genus in the family Asteraceae. The name is derived from the Arabic kurthum = paints or the Hebrew equivalent kartami. There are some types of these, but the best known species is safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) which as the scientific name mentioned is used as a dye, but which is so also ideal as cut flower or dried flower.
